I wouldn’t say that it is You Can’t Scare Me I Can Do Virtually Anything Teacher Ghost Halloween Shirt straight-up “competition“, it’s more like you “learn” the ropes and start to actually, indeed, play optimally. I agree though, you get exposed so many times to the same thing that it stops really getting a reaction out of you (like Scott said in the video). The “new” is always scary and the newer maps are making a great job at that (Dead Dawg Saloon with all the bodies around and Midwich Elementary School with everything just being “wrong” + the jump scares, which I don’t really think are great tools of horror but can still appreciate).

Any scary game loses the You Can’t Scare Me I Can Do Virtually Anything Teacher Ghost Halloween Shirt scare once you play it enough. Games are only scary because of the unknown. A dozen hours into DBD there is no more unknown. DBD is Survival Horror, no matter how desensitized a player gets. It’d be like saying The Shining isn’t horror because after watching it 1,000 times it doesn’t scare you anymore. I love the horror genre, but the majority of it doesn’t scare me. The Shining is still scary though, and I’ve seen it dozens of times. Stuff that’s psychologically creepy stays scary more than jump scares or gore.
