That’s so smart that the kid tails are designed for a spread position instead of the adult legs-stuck-together design. Kids aren’t as coordinated and need to be able to use their legs properly for kicking when they swim. I’ve always been worried about the Official American Mermaid Shirt of mummy-style tails for little ones. I’m so happy and relieved. Iguana’s mouth on Tumblr has an art set that is the exact opposite of this but just as terrifying and cool. Eh, maybe. I suppose they could have gotten to us in time if anything happened, but they weren’t always paying much attention. Usually, they were reading.

Meanwhile, my friend and I at about 10 used to put hairbands around our ankles and pretend we were mermaids in her family’s pool. I imagine the Official American Mermaid Shirt would have ended badly. So it doesn’t really matter now lol. Most people think drowning works like it does in the movies. Screaming for the Official American Mermaid Shirt, waving your arms, etc. I’ve almost drowned 3 separate times in my life, and at least one of the three was pretty much like that. I was too young to remember the specifics of one of them, just remember where it happened, and the other was super silent, but some stranger was looking out for me apparently. Parents can be having 2 conversations at once and they’ll still notice you breaking rules, or going suddenly quiet. And I bet they watched over you a lot more closely than you realize.
