My first was a vaginal birth. My second was a planned c-section because the baby was breech. Things are a lot fuzzier for the c-section both because it was shorter. And because of the drugs, they used for anesthesia. For recovery, I thought the c-section was quicker to recover from than the vaginal birth. There was less bleeding because they vacuum you out before closing up. The cramps were worse but I think they would have been regardless since it was my second birth. Post-partum depression was worse with the c-section, maybe because my body didn’t get to choose when the birth happened. Because I had a tear, the recovery from the vaginal birth was long. I was still having pain sitting and walking ten weeks out.

As things shifted back to their rightful places after I gave birth. In terms of pain during, vaginal birth was definitely more painful. My contractions before the epidural were coming on top of each other. I think it’s because I dilated pretty quickly after they broke my water. Once I had the epidural, I didn’t feel anything but I got pretty nauseous. For the c-section, I was freezing and shaking. And they had to cover me in blankets. I felt some tugging that was kind of unpleasant. But I told the nurse anesthetist and they made an adjustment that made it better. Otherwise, I didn’t feel anything.
