It’s an interesting trend, everything is becoming simplified. Remember way back when, when youtube was a tv? After that, it had a gradient, now it’s a solid color. Facebooks logo was an actual book, then a gradient, then solid color. I’m really sick of all the simplified logo, it’s gross. Wheres the old Mickey Mouse Hug Heart Green Bay Packers Logo Shirt! Uh no, a logo should be easy to read even when it’s small. It’s the designers who understand this. Sure it’s the trend, but it’s a functional trend. I doubt we’ll ever go back to detailed logos for apps, it doesn’t make sense. But the logo started as just the words YouTube.

Exactly. I don’t really think this argument has much legitimacy as an argument for the modern “just fill a couple of blobs with a solid tone and call it a day” aesthetic. That I would bet a good amount is going to seem utterly ridiculous. When we look back at the Mickey Mouse Hug Heart Green Bay Packers Logo Shirt in 20-30 years. Yes, it needs to be comfortably readable at a small size. No, that does not mean every single detail must be crystal clear even when the logo is at a 16×16 size. It is, in fact, possible to make art that looks good from afar, and even better when up close. The idea that you have to choose one.

And sacrifice the other is simply a false dilemma. It is a matter of knowing what bits are important and must work at all sizes. And which is just nice to have when you can. Thank you. Honestly, I like the new logo, not saying the old Mickey Mouse Hug Heart Green Bay Packers Logo Shirt was bad, but having it be clean and simple makes it easier to identify. Though I don’t know why they didn’t just stick with blue instead of going with purple, I’m not complaining. It’s not for apps, it’s because clean simplified logos transcend all print and web materials more easily than detailed clunky logos. The YouTube app on phones was a tv.
